A wave of Iranian drone strikes on Kuwait’s international airport has left one person dead and more than 60 others injured, according to local authorities.

Kuwait’s defence ministry spokesperson condemned Wednesday’s assault as “criminal Iranian aggression,” while the country’s foreign ministry reported damage to diplomatic buildings.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it carried out the attack in response to recent US strikes on an Iranian oil tanker and Qeshm Island, adding that American military bases in the Gulf were also targeted.

Earlier, the United States said it had conducted “self-defence” operations against Iran and successfully intercepted or destroyed Iranian missiles aimed at Kuwait and Bahrain.

The renewed confrontation has raised fears over the stability of an already fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran.

Officials later confirmed that the person killed in the airport strike was an Indian national.
