In a step forward for its clean energy goals, the Jordanian Cabinet led by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has officially agreed to a land-use deal with China’s United Energy Group (UEG). This deal gives UEG the access it needs to do studies for a huge green hydrogen and green ammonia production project in Jordan.

The decision is part of Jordan’s plan to use its lots of sunshine and wind to become a spot in the region for green industries, low-carbon fuels and sustainable exports.

Moving Forward with a $1.15 Billion Project

The approved land-use deal is a follow-up to a agreement signed in September 2025 between UEG and Jordan’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR).

The upcoming study, worth around $1.155 million will check if setting up an energy facility for exports makes sense technically and economically. Here are some key points about the project:

  • Production goal: around 200,000 tonnes of ammonia every year.
  • Resource use: the facility will use seawater that has been desalinated and renewable energy from Jordans solar and wind spots.
  • Economic plan: a main focus of the study is to keep production costs to compete well in a global market that wants low-carbon products more and more.

By moving from the agreement to a concrete land-use deal UEG can now formally check the terrain and move forward with the technical engineering phases, on the ground United Energy Group (UEG) will do detailed studies UEG will assess specific terrain requirements.
