SThe US military said it carried out overnight “self-defence” strikes on Iran and intercepted ballistic missiles and drones allegedly launched toward ships and Gulf nations.

According to US Central Command (Centcom), the strikes targeted Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz and were launched in response to what it described as attempted Iranian attacks across the Middle East.

Iran, meanwhile, said it had retaliated by targeting US bases and helicopters in a “regional country” using missiles and drones. Centcom reported that Tehran launched two missiles toward Kuwait and three toward Bahrain, adding that all were either intercepted or disintegrated before impact.

Later, Kuwait’s military said Iranian drones struck the country’s international airport, causing substantial structural damage and injuring several people.

Authorities suspended air traffic on Wednesday morning. Ministry of Defence spokesperson Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi condemned the incident as “criminal Iranian aggression” and said those injured were receiving treatment.
