Those born in 2009 or later will soon no longer be able to buy cigarettes in Britain.

The British Houses of Parliament and Commons have now passed a bill to impose a lifetime smoking ban, the BBC reports. The bill now needs the assent of King Charles.

The ban will be for life.

The law is exceptional. Britain will become the second country in the world to ban an entire generation from buying cigarettes. In November last year, the Maldives banned smoking and the purchase of cigarettes for everyone born in 2007 or later.
