1. How to Post a Comment
To join the conversation, simply fill out the comment form at the bottom of eligible articles. You will need to provide:
Name: This will be displayed publicly alongside your comment. We encourage using your real name or a consistent, respectful username.
Your Email: This is required for verification and moderation updates. Your email will never be displayed publicly.
Comment: Share your thoughts, keeping our community standards in mind.
2. Availability and Time Limits
To keep discussions fresh, relevant, and manageable for our moderation team, we implement the following rules:
The 24-Hour Window: When commenting is enabled on an article, the section will remain open for exactly 24 hours from the time of publication. Once this window closes, no new comments can be submitted, though existing comments will remain visible.
Limited Availability: Please note that commenting is not available on every article. North News* reserves the right to disable comments on specific pieces such as sensitive legal matters, highly tragic events, or opinion columns to protect privacy or prevent harm. If the comment form is missing, comments are closed for that article.
3. Community Standards & Moderation
Every comment submitted to North News* is reviewed by our moderation team before appearing on the site. We aim to approve thoughtful contributions as quickly as possible.
What we welcome:
Constructive Debate: Disagreements are healthy, provided they focus on the arguments, facts, and ideas, rather than the person making them.
Context and Evidence: Comments that bring new information, local context, or personal experience relevant to the story.
Clarity and Brevity: Clear, concise points that move the conversation forward.
What will be rejected:
To ensure a safe environment, we will not publish comments that contain:
Personal Attacks & Harassment: Insults, name-calling, or mocking aimed at our journalists, public figures, or fellow commenters.
Hate Speech & Discrimination: Any content that promotes violence, hatred, or discrimination against individuals or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
Profanity & Vulgarity: Coarse language, crude remarks, or sexually explicit text.
Misinformation & Libel: Unverified rumors, conspiracy theories, or defamatory statements that harm a person’s reputation.
Spam & Commercial Promotion: Links to external commercial websites, advertisements, or repetitive text blocks.
Privacy Violations: Posting phone numbers, home addresses, private emails, or other personal data belonging to yourself or others.
4. Moderation Notifications
We believe in a transparent moderation process. If your comment complies with our guidelines, it will appear on the article shortly after review.
Rejection Alerts: If your comment cannot be posted because it violates one or more of the guidelines listed above, you will receive an automated email notification.
Edits: Please note that North News* does not edit your comments. If a comment is rejected, the entire submission is discarded. You are welcome to revise your phrasing and submit a new comment, provided the 24-hour window is still open.
A Note on Community Safety: North News* reserves the right to permanently block email addresses or names associated with repeated, intentional violations of these guidelines. Thank you for helping us keep our community platform respectful, informative, and engaging!
